What is to be accomplished by both of these activities?I used to do something similar in EDM310 (the old EDM310) Consistently about 33% of the students (juniors in college) could not meet the standards you have set for your sixth graders. For example Step 3 on Slide 6 would totally baffle them. Totally! Even using a spreadsheet in which I had provided a job sheet that showed exactly how to include amount borrower, length of loan in months, annual interest rate, monthly interest rate and payment. They had to construct no formulas - only find and insert them!Good luck. I gave up on math for teachers. Sometimes I regret it. Other times I just ignore what has happened in the teaching profession.
